Understanding Gastritis

Understanding GastritisGastritis is an inflammation of the wall of the stomach. Judging from the time of the occurrence, gastritis is divided into two:
  • Acute gastritis or appear suddenly and quickly died down.
  • Chronic gastritis or occur slowly and lasts a long time.

Understanding Gastritis
The hull possess acid-producing cells and enzymes useful for digesting food. To protect the lining of the stomach from ulcers or acid removal, these cells also produce a layer of "slime". This function protects the mucous layer of the wall of the stomach from acid-induced irritation produced. Gastritis occurs when the mucus layer is damaged so that the wall of the stomach starts to irritated skin.

On most sufferers, symptoms can appear and be either a pain or a dull ache in the upper abdomen, nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite. And in the case of gastritis are fairly severe, namely due to the occurrence of annihilation and bleeding in the lining of the stomach. The symptoms that arise can be red or black colored stools and vomiting blood.

Treatment immediately if you are suffering from gastritis because most of these conditions can be cured quickly once treated. But otherwise if the gastritis is left, then in the long run it is feared will cause complications like bleeding peptic ulcers, and gastric cancer.

Things that cause gastritis

Acute gastritis is commonly caused by:
  • Foods containing high acid levels (foods containing vinegar is too acidic or fruits).
  • The food was too spicy.
  • Side effects of drug use, pain reliever such as ibuprofen, aspirinand non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (OAINS).
If left, all cases of acute gastritis can turn into chronic gastritis. Chronic gastritis is generally caused by:
  • H. pylori bacterial infection
  • Liquid reflux of bile (bile fluid back flow from the stomach into the intestine)
  • The underlying condition, such as pernicious anemia (anemia due to the stomach not being able to digest vitamin B12)
  • Excessive consumption of alcohol.
  • Drug usage types of cocaine.

Diagnosis of gastritis

In performing diagnosis of gastritis, the first thing that is usually done on the patient's doctor is asked about the perceived symptoms. The doctor will also ask about the patient's medical history, such as whether the patient ever suffered from a condition that may become basic cause gastritis or whether the patient actively taking any medication pain reliever such as ibuprofen, aspirin, or non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (OAINS). Of the information, the physician will draw preliminary conclusions regarding the conditions being experienced by the patient.

Since gastritis is a condition rather than a disease, cause basically I need to know so that appropriate responses can be done. To support the conclusions, doctors usually will also perform a number of physical examinations, such as:
  • Breath test, a blood test or fecal examination to detect the presence of h. pylori bacteria.
  • Barium tests to notice any changes in the lining of the stomach.
  • Endoscopic examination, i.e. by using an endoscope (a small tool resembling a hose equipped with a camera) that is inserted into the esophagus to the stomach. The benefits of this inspection was to check for the presence of disturbances in the digestive system, including to make sure if there is inflammation or ulcers in the stomach wall.
  • Biopsy, i.e. the actual examination is still a part of the endoscope. If the doctor finds the presence of inflammation, stomach wall tissue samples may be taken to be examined in the laboratory. Through these biopsies, doctors can also detect the presence of h. pylori bacteria.

Treatment of gastritis

To treat acute gastritis caused by increasing the production of acidic substances, you can use medicines such as the following:
  • Proton pump inhibitor drugs (PPP), such as esomeprazole, lansoprazole, and omeprazole. PPP is able to inhibit acid-producing cells in the lining of the stomach. Thus, the acid levels in the stomach can go down. These drugs generally require a prescription from a doctor.
  • Antasida medicines, that isa drug that is able to neutralize the acid in the stomach.Side effects of these drugs are still classified as misdemeanors, such as diarrhea and constipation. These drugs can be bought without requiring a prescription.
  • Antihistamine drugs H-2 like cimetidine, famotidine, ranitidine and. Same like proton pump inhibitor, antihistamine H-2 is capable of lowering the levels of acid in the digestive tract. These drugs require a doctor's prescription.
To address the acute gastritis caused by irregular eating schedules and consumption of food that is too spicy, You could do with how to stop the two bad habits. However if Your acute gastritis caused by the side effects of pain relief medicines you consume, you should ask a doctor first before you stop it and look for alternative medicine.

If the gastritis caused by the h. pylori bacteria infection, the combination 3 medication will be used to address them, i.e. 2 antibiotics and 1 PPI. A commonly used antibiotic isclarithromycin, amoxicillin and metronidazole. The combination of these drugs given during the week.
